Meeting was called at 7:15 by Sal.

Pledge of allegiance was given by Sal. President Sally Alvarez, Liz De Santiago and Arlene Contreras were unable to attend the meeting due to personal health matters and that the meeting will be handled by him and VP Nancy.

Approval of April minutes by Berra Narango.

Floor was handed over to Aquatic Supervisor Rachel B. Rachel greeted parents and began with the dates of pool closure due to filming the 18th through 20th. Kevin who was running late due to Olympic meeting was to give the alternative to practice schedule. Rachel spoke about pool fees being due, a large number of people have not paid and the coaches are to notify the child during practice she reminded parents that fees were supposed to be paid in April and it is now the middle of May. Sandra Jimenez stated she was one of the parents but felt maybe the notifications should not be mailed with the newsletter because people may not know they are together and throw them away by mistake. Rachel mentioned it’s convenient for them to send it that way and parents should know when the fees are due. Another parent mentions the difficulty of paying for the entire year. He had attempted and was turned away due to the staff not knowing how to manipulate the system. Rachel mentioned that all staff should be educated regarding the system but will clarify the issue with them. Rachel spoke of the true definition of a resident. She then spoke of anonymous calls made to the city which the city would have to investigate and the city may take civil suit of both the resident and person fraudulently using their address. She mentioned she will be outside for those parents who would like to pay dues that evening.

Sal then gave the floor to Coach Bobby. Bobby welcomed everybody to the meeting. He spoke of two boys who were accepted to Whitter College and mention some of our other boys were already going there and it would be a great team to watch if given the chance. He spoke of the San Diego water polo trip the black team fought hard but fell short in the competition and that they played some really tough teams. Bobby mentioned the green team which played for 3rd place in the AA division lost by one, but was impressed on how hard they worked and they are a good team. He spoke about the 10 and 12’s on how well they played in the tournament. This coming weekend he is taking the 14 boys black team to Sacramento for a tournament he has room for two more boys which he take from the green team. He will need parent’s permission to have the boys miss school on Friday and will return Sunday. He expressed his concern regarding the 16 and 18’s teams not showing up to practice and if there is no improvement he will not enter them in this year’s JO’s and will allocate those funds to maybe the 14 under green team. He then explained that everybody who qualifies in this years JO’s will divided in 4 new categories unlike last year’s 2 divisions. He mentioned the fundraising for the 14 boy’s fundraiser which raised money during the Poker night and spoke about another fundraiser in which a huge event would take place.

Kevin was given the floor to speak.

Kevin greeted the parents and began reading off the newsletter sent out by mail. He congratulated the most improved swimmers and mentioned the upcoming Cerritos Swim meet. He brought extra signup sheets for those who would like to fill it out now. Kevin mentioned those who qualify for Junior Olympics and also reminded parents about the Vegas trip on Memorial Weekend. He gave a financial report to Board.

Sal thanked Kevin and began the 50/50 raffle which the pot was $116.00. Nancy picked out a child in the crowd and she picked the ticket belonging to Patty Melendez as the winner of $58 and the booster collected $58. We reminded everybody that a winner will be called every month and you can’t win if you don’t buy a ticket. Sal spoke about the Pancake breakfast. I thanked parents that volunteered and donated. We sold $400 dollars in tickets but had to pay for food and rental of the senior center Sal stated that there was a $200 profit. Sal began to explain about how next year when the pool is open we will be able to raise around $3000.  We spoke of Liz’s first show taping fundraiser which raised $72 dollars with the help of parents driving and also of the second trip which raised $400 and were awaiting the check in the mail. We reminded parents that their participation is needed to gain maximum profit and this was great way to raise a lot of money in a short time period. We also mentioned that Liz would schedule more if the summer. We also mentioned that the board would like to allocate the funds to buy the children who have already had their parents pay their booster fees a team shirt in which they could wear during JO’s or during games or swim meets to have a more uniformed look of a team. Nancy described how other teams have similar attire and we would like our children to replicate the fashion. The board would also provide parents who have not paid booster dues the same suit for a fee. Nancy reminded parents that the team shirts would not be the end of the year gift but a product of the booster clubs fundraising efforts for the members who have paid their membership fees. Parents in attendance had mentioned other items that they would like to have come out of the fundraising efforts. We began to speak about the firework booth. I explained that we would not allow 7 people to gain hours in the overnight watch of the booth and will only take 4 people and reminded parent that it is mandatory for parents to be at next month’s meeting and the first 15 minutes of the meeting we will be taking a lottery of volunteer hours and if they know anybody not in present today to remind them about next month’s meeting. (a notice will be sent out by the secretary to remind parents) The board wanted to charge for parking the day of the Fourth of July event and would give parents hours to watch vehicles. The board wanted to have a booth at the firework stand to sell glow sticks and silly string on the day of event. Rick Ojeda reminded that the booth would be selling teriyaki chicken and rice. Mario Moran asked if the board would be interested in a second booth to raise money with a dunking tank and charge. Sandra Jimenez mentioned that if we would want a second booth that we would have to submit a request for the lot quickly because they have to be approved by the city. Parents gave ideas regarding face painting, bean bag tic toe, dunk tank. Nancy spoke about a Dodger night bus which a bus would be donated but would only be available if we used it for a dodger event. I explained that the owner tried to provide a contact for a 56 passenger bus for a turnaround but I was given the run around and he felt bad and said he would donate the bus to make up. I reminded the parents that it may not seem much with only a 25 passenger bus but its money coming in and wouldn’t schedule till later in the year after firework and Hawaii trip as passed. Sal asked if any of the parents if they had any questions or concerns. No one raised their hands. Sal thanked everybody for coming to the meeting and meeting was called at 7:56.
